Incorporating Ritual Into Your Baby Shower

Your baby shower: it’s the day when a new mom is showered with gifts, cards, and love from the most important ladies in her life. It’s the marker of time that says our baby is almost here, let’s welcome it into the world properly. A baby shower also marks an important passage for the new mom. It is the transition into the circle of motherhood. Ceremony and ritual, unfortunately, have been left out of our lives. While these traditions carry on in modern holidays, they are forgotten about during a baby shower.

The day of the baby shower is a perfect way to incorporate rituals. It is the perfect opportunity to call on the wisdom of the woman in our lives. The focus is largely on celebrating the baby and the fun of parenthood. But, there should also be a focus on the challenges of new parenthood.

To make the day of your baby shower as meaningful as possible, here are some ways you can incorporate rituals on this special day.

Share In Knowledge

Admittedly, looking at the cute baby clothes is such a fun part of the day. Imagining the new bundle of joy wrapped up in swaddled and cute clothes is enough to warm anyone’s heart.

More than likely, there are plenty of woman at the shower who know what it’s like to bring a new life into the world. This day is a perfect time to call on the wisdom of these woman for advice and support.

Advice Books

One idea you can implement is having a table with a book where throughout the day, everyone can write parenting advice in this book for you. Or words of wisdom that you should remember when times get tough. It will be a wonderful moment for you to look back on but, will also provide you support and strength in the future.

Blessing Bracelet

When we have a baby shower, the newborn is often gifted with many clothes and necessities, but what about the mother? You should also have something to take away from the day and here is one we absolutely adore.

Pass out beads (themed, random, whatever you are drawn to) and have each woman offer a blessing or wish for your parenting journey. Have them do this as they string their bead onto a bracelet. You will end up with a meaningful bracelet (or several) infused with the best wishes and thoughts from the woman in your life.

Candles

Labor is hard. It is one of the most rewarding yet challenging things a woman can go through in her life. On the day she goes into labor, the new mom will need to feel all the support and love she can.

We really love the thoughtfulness of this tradition. At the shower, every woman receives a candle. When you go into labor, each woman will light the candle. While they may not physically be there, you will know that you have a tribe of women thinking about you.

Prepare For The First Weeks At Home

The postpartum period is exhausting for a new mom. One great way to help her out is to have a meal train sign-up sheet at the baby shower. Each person can sign up to provide a meal for the new family during those first crucial weeks at home.

New motherhood is such a joyous time. It seems as if the baby shower is the beginning marker for this new chapter. Incorporating rituals, advice, and preparation for the future can help a new mom feel loved and more supported during this time.
